Whilst the temples of Angkor are enough to draw most people to Cambodia, the country offers far more for the discerning traveler. This trip begins with the arresting temples of Angkor, before journeying to the vibrant capital of Phnom Penh. Finally, travel south to the beautiful pristine beaches of Sihanoukville for some rest and relaxation
Day1: Siem Reap Arrival. Welcome to Siem Reap, the provincial capital and gateway to the ancient Angkor temples. Designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Angkor Archaeological Park encompasses dozens of temple ruins including Bayon, Banteay Srei and the legendary Angkor Wat. Our guide will meet you at the airport and take you to hotel in the central of Siem Reap, then enjoy the evening at your leisure. We recommend a short walk to Siem Reap’s downtown night market. Day2: Siem Reap – Ta Prohm – Grand Circuit. Early morning, we enjoy the tuk tuk to the jungle-covered temple of Ta Prohm and come back to hotel for breakfast at 07:30. One hour later, begin your temple exploration today at the biggest religious temple in the world - the magnificent Angkor Wat. Built by Suryavarman II in the early 12th century, Angkor Wat is considered a masterpiece of Khmer architecture. After that, continue to visit Angkor Thom from the west gate. From the enigmatic faces of Bayon temple to the intricate bas reliefs of the Terrace of the Elephants, Angkor Thom is filled with fabulous monuments. Lunch is at local restaurant on your own account. In the afternoon, we visit Preah Khan temple. It means “Holy Sword” is one of the largest temple compounds in Angkor and is defended by four concentric walls. The main shrine and its adjoining buildings are richly decorated with Buddhist motifs and scenes from Hindu epics. We keep going to Preah Neak Pean to the Eastern Mebon and the various monuments like Ta Som, Preah Rup. Later afternoon, you will be back to hotel for relaxing. Meal: Breakfast. Day 3: Siem Reap – Rolous Group – Beng Melea. Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before having an hour drive out of town to the ancient capital of King Indravarman I (877-889), now referred to as the Rolous Group and known as the birthplace of classical Khmer art and architecture. We stop for lunch at a local village then continue on to visit the incredible jungle-covered temple: Beng Mealea. This distant temple is a gem in the midst of the jungle; half strangled with vines and decorated by lichen, Beng Mealea is the true adventure experience. On the way back to Siem Reap, visit a shadow puppet workshop and enjoy a traditional performance put on by the “Little Angels” orphanage and school. Return to Siem Reap in the late afternoon. Day 4: Siem Reap – Floating Village. Enjoy your breakfast at hotel, you will take a break from visiting temples and enjoy a boat ride, in a traditional wooden boat, on the Tonle Sap. This is the largest permanent fresh-water lake in South Asia and flows into Tonle Sap River, joining the Mekong in Phnom Penh. We will see a “floating village” – boats have been converted to look like houses and the “village” move from place to place following water levels. We continue to one of the city’s lively open markets, Psar Chhas, all called the “Old Market”, where you can know more about the local life! Meal: Breakfast. Accommodation: Hotel in Siem Reap.
Day 5: Siem Reap – Fly to Phnom Penh. After breakfast, transfer out for your in-country flight to Phnom Penh by flight. Upon arrival, your guide and driver will meet you and transfer you to hotel for check in. After lunch at a downtown restaurant, visit the Tuol Sleng Prison Museum and the notorious ‘Killing Fields’ of Choeung Ek. A visit to these sights provides a deep insight into the painful bloody rule of the Khmer Rouge. Meal: Breakfast. Accommodation: Hotel in Phnom Penh.
Day 6: Phnom Penh City Tour – Drive to Sihanouk Ville. After breakfast, take a leisurely tour to visit National Museum, the Royal Palace – home to the royal family, and Silver Pagoda. Then your driver will transfer you to Sihanouk Ville, home to some of Southeast Asia most pristine white-sand beaches. With a 10km stretch of beaches and a smattering of costal islands, Sihanouk Ville is the perfect tropical, beach getaway. Check in to your hotel then enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. Meals: Breakfast. Accommodation: Hotel in Sihanouk Ville.
Day 7 – Day 10: Sihanouk Ville – Free day on the beach. Enjoy entire days free for basking in the sun or bathing in the warm coastal waters. This is the time when the dream of spending holidays in an exotic country becomes a reality. Meals: Breakfast. Accommodation: Hotel in Sihanouk Ville.
Day 11: Sihanouk Ville – Drive back to Phnom Penh – Departure. Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before driving to Phnom Penh’s airport to catch your flight home. Good bye & Safe travels! Meals: Breakfast. Accommodation: N/A.
